*** Turtle Trivia ***
A mature Loggerhead female turtle weighs between 200 and 400 lbs. Their tracks measure from 3 to 6 ft wide.
At night female turtles come ashore and dig a hole in the sand dunes and lay their eggs. Each nest contains about 120 eggs.
It takes approximately 60 days for the eggs to hatch. When the eggs begin to hatch the sand pile begins to sink. They always hatch at night and the hatchlings follow the moonlight to the sea.
That is when they set their GPS (ground positioning system) so the females can return, to the same spot, in 20 to 30 years to lay their eggs.
On shore Ghost Crabs like to eat hatchlings.
One out of 1000 live to maturity.
